There’s an antidote for the stupidity California exhibited when it sent its Bay Bridge work to China. It is legislation called the Invest in American Jobs Act. It would strengthen existing requirements for buying American products when federal tax dollars pay for construction. A U.S. Senator introduced legislation mandating federal agencies buy all American-made flags. And at the Netroots Nation 2011 conference, the AFL-CIO will serve American union-made beer. The Alliance for American Manufacturing will host an American-made fashion show. With 9.1 percent unemployment, this convergence of American-made events is significant because buying American-made products is buying American jobs. And buying American union-made products is buying good, middle class American jobs.
