Let’s see now…
The Republicans in Congress refused to pass an extension of unemployment benefits unless a way could be found to pay for them. These are the same Republicans who, with a Republican in the White House and a Republican majority in Congress, took the surplus in the U.S. Treasury and gave it away to wealthy businessmen who returned part of that money to help finance the Republicans’ campaigns. Now they don’t know how to finance an extension of unemployment benefits?
Here’s my suggestion: Put your money where your mouth is. Every congressman, whether Democrat or Republican, who refuses to vote for an extension of benefits should be layed off for failure to perform on behalf of the people who voted for them. The savings will go a long way toward financing
unemployment benefits for the people who need them.
One might call that “poetic justice.”
