Indeed, good post Leo and great speech in St. Louis this week (I was there).

One the the things that could be done to help business in America would be passage of HR676 or simular single payer health bill. That would level some playing fields with foreign competition by removing some of the direct costs to American business.

alas, that is not the position of the senate, whom jailed single payer folks and then recommended taxing health care benefits this week. Senator Baccus and his bannana republic committee seems not to want to hear competing views and focus on taxing workers and insurance bottom line profits for his Wall street buddies.

Obama, not allowing single payer folks at the table leaves some of us wondering if he really into "change we can believe in" .

Industrious nations like China grow wealthy and secure by making enough products to support their needs on their farms, factories and mines, plus earn additional currency by creating additional wealth by exporting products that they manufactured. The health of every other business depends upon these productive industries. Do US farms, factories, and mines manufacture, grow or mine enough products to maintain us, or do we need to import additional products and increase the current trade deficit? NO!!! Could They? YES!!!

How could the USA re-industrialize and also pay decent wages to US citizens to manufacture the things that we consume? We could provide extremely high import tariffs on the products that we desire to begin manufacturing in the USA. The tariffs would be high enough to prohibit the import of these selected products. This would allow the US manufacturer to employ US citizens at some pay scale higher than foreign country citizens get paid. The US government could select one product at a time for prohibitive tariffs. We might start with manufacturing steel, auto parts, tires, washers, dryers, refrigerators, computer chips, building materials, computers, data processors, and then other selected manufacturing industries. We should repeal all free trade legislation and international trade treaties. Our consumable products will cost several times as much as they cost now, but this is necessary, or we will become a third world nation of beggars.
